DIY Industrial Hanging Pots

Hi! It's Taryn from Design, Dining and Diapers! Since the New Year I've been busy working on our new family room (you can see peeks of it here), and I'm finally in the stage of pulling all the little details together and filling blank wall space. During our inspection we learned that there are several pipes running behind one of the walls in our family room and were advised not to hang anything on the walls in that section. Eeek! If I can't hang anything what do I do? So I decided to hang something from the ceiling!

Deck Maintenance

The addition of a deck is one of the most popular home improvement projects. A well-designed, well-built deck not only expands the outdoor living space of your home but increases the property value as well. Whether you choose wood or composite decking, the truth is both require some form of general maintenance to ensure a long lasting, safe, sound structure. Decks take the most abuse of any surface around the home. From heavy foot traffic to year-round sun, rain and snow, they must be maintained, protected and able to withstand constant harsh elements and abuse.

Staining Your Deck

It’s summertime, and you know what that means: we're spending a lot more time outside grilling and just relaxing on our porches and decks. When summer arrived this year, I took a good, hard look at my screened porch and decks and realized they were all badly in need of some freshening up. We had many days of heavy rains at the end of summer last year that, along with all the trees that extend over my decks, turned the decks a nice shade of green/brown. Yuck.

Painting a Door

My front door has been an eyesore since the day we moved in. It was sporting a flat coat of burgundy paint that was applied in a sloppy manner, so there was paint on the window panes, door knob and knocker. And there were places where the undercoat of paint was still visible. It wasn’t a great first impression when entering the house. So, I did what I always do – I painted it. First black, then a refresher coat of satin black and then I changed it to red for a photoshoot. The final coat of red paint was a disaster. With so many coats of paint along with bubbles of sap that have seeped to the surface…it was to the point where it needed to be stripped and refinished to really look good. Given the fact that you could see daylight in a few places through the door, I decided it was time to replace it. (And a better option than spending hours stripping away who-knows-how-many coats of paint!)

A Rustic Table

Hello there! How was your weekend? We had a great one - guess WHAT? Stink Eye Sis got engaged!! :) So excited! So now we have a wedding to plan - how fun is that? We also continued to get some stuff done outside. Make that ME - hubby was out of town and I sweated out a third of my body weight (I WISH) and worked on some outdoor projects. Funny that the temps have "dropped" into the 80's and are a bit more bearable, but that coincided with humidity out the wazoo.
